These rules were given by Michael Silva over a Zoom call on 7/10/2021 and are included verbatim with each kit. Knowing them can help get your head in the game and inspire all sorts of new game plans.
RULES of the GAME:
- Set up the chairs 40 feet apart (recommended level based on age and skill). For the pros, take it out a little further apart and let the younger players adjust the distance as needed.
- Note: Teammates play on the same side. Games can be played 1-on-1 up to 4-on-4, and teams can be balanced however you see fit, guys against gals, kids against adults, you decide. You can also balance positions, such as 1 player on the left and 3 on the right. Just make sure there is at least one player on each side when playing with teams of two or more.
POINT SCORING:
Touchdown — 6 points:
Throw the ball into the basket.
Completion — 3 points:
A throw that hits any part of the chair, including the uprights, counts as a completion.
Defense Play — 3 points opportunity:
If the defending team catches the ball after a bounce (the ball must hit the chair first and cannot be intentionally deflected by the defense), they may take a knee for 3 points or attempt a return.
If they choose to return the ball, the defense becomes active. Wherever the ball carrier is two-hand touched and downed, that spot becomes the throwing position toward the chair for points. The returning team gets one attempt only. After the attempt, possession switches and the defense becomes the offense.
Team Play (2-on-2, 3-on-3, or 4-on-4):
Both offense and defense are fully in play. Blocking and lateral pitches are allowed, making the game more fast-paced and competitive.
AFTER SCORING A TOUCHDOWN:
The scoring offense kicks the ball from the tee. If the kick gets through the uprights, it’s 1 point. If it lands in the bucket, it’s what’s known as a “FITZ,” which is instant WIN for the kicking team. And that’s Game Over.
If the kick goes wide right or wide left, the ball stays in play and the defense can catch and return it using the same interception return rules mentioned above.
To win the game, a team must reach 54 points and then win by at least 2 points. Once a team reaches 54, play continues if the opposing team is within 7 points until a two-point lead is achieved.
HAIL MARY:
If you are losing by more than 8 points, you may step back the number of steps equal to how many points you are behind. If you make it into the bucket, you win and are to be carried off in screams as if you were the main character in the movie “Rudy.”
